Female friendships on television have mostly varied only insofar as they’ve stayed true to a framework of two main tropes that perpetuate lopsided relationships. Broad City, however, breaks away from depictions of relational aggression, colloquially known as “mean girl behavior” marked by gossip and social banishment, á la Gossip Girl, as well as the wing-woman friendship depicted by Ethel and Lucy and by Carrie and Co. on Sex and the City.
